Nissene/elves...

We're up at the summer house now ready for a danish christmas.
Here are the little ones preparing rice pudding/risengrød for the elves!
We all eat rice pudding on the 23rd, with butter and cinnamon sugar. The leftovers are used to make a christmas desert of rice, whipped cream, almonds and hot cherry sauce. The traditional pud of the christmas dinner on the 24th dec.

We took a little bowl of the rice pud out to the elves in the wood shed. The elves are often nice and leave little chocolates and things around for us, but sometimes they play tricks on us, like turning the milk pink! At the kindergarten where I work one morning we came in to find tolilet paper hanging all over! You never know where you are with the elves!!!

With christmas fast appraoching we thought we better be very nice to them!

The next morning we found an empty bowl and a big present, a marble run.
Those elves must have liked that rice pud!

Grandparents day!

Alfie's kindergarten had a grnadparents day, it coincided with a visit from grandad, so both sets were represented : )
There was decoration making, jigsaws, sewing, baking followed by lunch and a trip to church with parents and siblings. The day finished with æbleskiver (a danish doughnut/cake) and glogg/mulled wine.

Alfie thought all this was great!

Other news...,

Alfie made lollipops at kindergarten to his great delight!

We went to our village christmas party on Saturday, Father Christmas visited and all the children got lucky bags.
Alfie could only join in with the games when he'd eaten all his sweets, he's inherited his mum's sweet tooth... ; ) The giant tree was traditionally decorated with Danish flags, mini drums, angel hair and real candles!

We've decorated oranges with cloves and sequins (with colourful pins through the middle), a easy and effective holiday craft : )

Now best get cracking with; christmas cards, I'm very late for international post I'm afraid, collecting more firewood, stoking the fires, christmas cookies, getting ready for Grandad's arrival and cleaning (always last on the list I'm afraid!!!).

Hope everyone's december days are going merrily with time for a bit of realxation!
