Mere fastelavn

More pictures from Fastelavn....

We're having another snow storm today so there's still lots of dressing up to do.

Faster Lotte made the fab apple costume for Johannes last year and conviently it fits Molly this year. I made the bear outfit for alfie by making some simple trousers and copied one of his hats and added ears. I'm investigating patterns for princess skirts now, I feel we need a big dressing up box!

I was a magician, using my old uni. gown and a witches hat : )

Fastelavn er mit navn...

In Denmark they have a festival called Fastleavn. It is vaguely related to lent and a story about danish soiders.
It is a dress-up festival. Here's Alfie the bear, ready to to go the party,

and Molly the apple.

All the children take it in turns the hit barrel until it cracks open with sweets and fruit.

There was a local party in our vilage hall which we went to. Alfred's børnehaven also had a party as did the one I work at.

New baby quilt

Steffan and Ane, the co owners of our farm and our good friends have just had their first baby. I made them this quilt as a new baby present.

It was super easy to sew and I was really pleased with the finished quilt. It is just big squares of cotton fabric sewn together and zig zagged together for extra strength. Then the squares are quilted onto a wool blanket... I did straight line quilting on my sewing machine.

There always a 'little helper' around ; )

I made some binding out of strips of leftover fabric, using patterned fabric and plain. I machine sewed it onto the front and folded it over to the back and hand sewed it in place while watching 24. Christian and I are just getting in to the series after Viki has been raving about it for ages!

Alfie's birthday cont.

Christian made Alfie this wagon for his birthday, so when the snow finally starts to melt we can go for rides outside and transport picnics, toys and kiddies around the garden and field.

The birthday flags came out ; ) Grandad is staying with us for 2 weeks, his bed is conviently placed for climbing on the window sill so Alfie and Molly are constantly climbing up and jumping down, climbing up and jumping down...

This is the cake we made for Alfie to take to kindergarten.
Alfie now being 3 years old started at kindergarten last week. He has been off 3 days already with a sickness bug but otherwise seems happy to be going to the BIG kindergarten with the BIG children!

weekend

It's so icy in the courtyard, the chickens are skating and flapping all over the place!

Alfie and I have been making some jam buns/fastelavn bolle...

they were yummy!

Molly just after her nap, she's got more teeth on the way.
We're hoping they will stop bothering her so much soon.
